Circle Trip Route
The standard route follows a loop which begins and ends at Trout Lake
(where
the cabins are located). Approximately 45 miles are covered during the
trip,
where a third of these miles are upstream.
First Day
- We carry our canoes from the Roloff Cabins to the Braatz's cabin on Trout Lake (Braatz's have been nice through the years to let us use their beach for our canoe trips)
-
East across the Northern part of Trout Lake, up Stevenson's creek
-
Portage to and paddle across Pallette Lake, portage to and paddle across Lost Canoe Lake, portage to and paddle across White Sand Lake
-
Canoe down White Sand Creek having lunch at the cross country ski bridge.
-
Canoe up the Mantowish River just past Fish Trap Dam --just East of Boulder Junction, WI.
-
Fish Trap dam is the location of beaver bay where we do the beaver island race. We typically do the tug of war also at this campsite.
Second Day
-
Canoe down the upper Mantowish River through Boulder,
Island, and Spider Lakes.
-
The crossing of Boulder Lake is where we do the Lake Race.i
- Just before Island Lake is a canoe campsite (LeCaptian Point) where we use to have lunch but now stop for a snack.
-
Cross Mantowish Lake and canoe a short ways up Trout River to a campsite just off Mantowish Lake. This campsite use to end our 2nd day, but now we have lunch there.
-
More recently we canoe farther on the second day, canoeing through Alder and Wild Rice Lakes, and taking a small side excursion up Gresham Creek to Lower Gresham Lake to camp.
Third Day
-
Canoe up the rest of the Trout River throught Trout River golf course, ending on Trout Lake.
-
As long as the weather is not severe, we do the lake swim at the beach just North of where Trout River exits Trout Lake.
-
We stop at the narrows campsite between South and North Trout to do the traditional dunk of the He-Man of the year and also any one finishing a significant anniversary
- We exit Trout at the Braatz's cabin
-
In the very early years we actually camped ot the narrows campsite for a third night. That was when most of us were in college and did not need to get back to work.
